IF NOT NOW, THEN WHEN?

More than 17,500 people experienced the production when it first premiered at Nørrebro Teater in spring 2026. Due to overwhelming demand, Renæssance returns in spring 2027!

With the older woman’s story at its centre, 10 female actors aged 67 and up take the stage at Nørrebro Teater in an honest and powerful exploration of their lives as they are today. What is it like to live as a woman at that age in a society obsessed with youth and reinvention?

Renæssance is a performance about holding on to one’s worth and strength, and about insisting on occupying a meaningful place in society. The production gives the stage to the women themselves and seeks to narrow the gap between the stories told by media and fiction about older women — and the stories these women tell about their own lives.

Director and playwright Kamilla Wargo Brekling has transformed the 10 actors’ own experiences, memories, dreams, and visions into the foundation of the production’s dramaturgy and text. In the winter of 2025, a series of conversation salons with women of retirement age was also held, and their stories form an essential part of the production’s foundation.

On stage are Jannie Faurschou, Hanne Hedelund, Ulla Henningsen, Ann Hjort, Marianne Mortensen, Sonja Oppenhagen, Birgitte Raaberg, Pia Rosenbaum and Rikke Wölck, while Kirsten Olesen is this time replaced by Bente Eskesen.

Alberte Winding and Andreas Fuglebæk have created the newly composed music, while Karin Gille is responsible for the set and costume design.
