KLARA LILJA: MYTHS AND CLAY

Join us for a very special workshop with visual artist Klara Lilja, as the foyer of Nørrebro Teater is transformed into a studio with clay at its centre. As part of the special programme accompanying KATARSIS, we have invited Klara Lilja to lead a workshop exploring several of the themes from the performance – including myths. Myths are a recurring theme in Klara Lilja’s practice, where she works with clay, her own glazes and modelling techniques.

During the workshop, you will be introduced to Klara Lilja’s artistic practice, as well as various techniques and tools, and guided in creating your own sculpted work inspired by themes such as cycles, rituals, new beginnings and endings. After the workshop, your sculpture will be fired, and you will be able to collect your personal work at the theatre a few weeks later. Please note that the works will be unglazed.

Klara Lilja (b. 1989) holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2021). She is particularly known for her ceramics, which draw inspiration from manga, fantasy, superstition and mythology. Popular culture and the occult play a central role in Klara Lilja’s universe. Her Instagram functions as a popular visual gallery, engaging her 23K+ followers while she keeps her face anonymous. Klara Lilja is represented by V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Her most recent solo exhibitions include Alive at Eighteen Gallery (2024) and Mellem Myte og Virkelighedat CLAY Museum, Middelfart, and Willumsen Museum, Frederikssund (2022). Lilja recently collaborated on a major project with Danish porcelain brand Royal Copenhagen (2025).
