THE VÖLVA’S PROPHECY: SPIRITUALITY, FAITH AND ADVERSITY

During the run of KATARSIS, we are through a special programme, exploring themes that are central to the play. One of the themes of the performance is witchcraft and völva, and in this context Nørrebro Teater has invited author, lecturer and self-proclaimed völva Andrea Hejlskov to a conversation about The Völva’s Prophecy in relation to her work and knowledge. Together with cultural journalist Gustav Hagild, the conversation delves into spirituality, faith, adversity, and the breakdowns we experience in life and in society at large.

Andrea Hejlskov (b. 1975) is an author who, throughout her life and writing, has explored what it means – and whether it is even possible – to be both a modern- and an ancient woman in today’s society. Hejlskov made her literary debut in 2005 with the book Lokes Høj and has since published a number of books, including Vølve (2021), Vølvens Spådom (2024), and most recently Heksens bog (2025). Hejlskov is also a consultant on KATARSIS (2026) at Nørrebro Teater.

Gustav Hagild (b. 1995) is a radio host and cultural journalist at DR P1. Hagild graduated from DR’s Talent Programme (2021–2023) and holds an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and a BA in Religion and Politics from King’s College London.
