About
Nørrebro Teater is one of Denmark’s most significant theatres, with a capacity of 620. Located on Ravnsborggade in the heart of Nørrebro, the theatre’s mission is to connect with the wider world through thought-provoking and engaging theatre and culture.
Since May 2024, Janne Villadsen and Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen have served as Directors, and since then the organisation has undergone a strategic transformation with the ambition of becoming an inclusive and engaging cultural institution.
Accordingly, in August 2025 Nørrebro Teater reopened with a new programme spanning Theatre, Talks & Gatherings, Art & Performance, and Music. Shortly before, the theatre unveiled a new identity created by the Munich-based design agency Bureau Borsche. The theatre’s logo and visual language bridge past, present, and future, reflecting the direction in which Nørrebro Teater and its programme are moving.
Inspired by the theatre’s original façade sign, designed by the pioneering modernist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1932, the identity supports the theatre’s mission: to create connections between people through culture and to offer new perspectives.
From spring 2026, the theatre will also unveil a new foyer designed by the design studio Mentze Ottenstein.
THE EXECUTIVE TEAM

Janne Villadsen, Director & Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen, Artistic Director
We place a strong emphasis on co-creation and respect for professional expertise in our work developing Nørrebro Teater. This principle is grounded in our different areas of expertise we each bring: Janne Villadsen’s cultural-strategic ambitions, shaped by her background as, among other roles, Programme Director of Heartland Festival, and Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen’s artistic development through her work as a stage director and as co-founder of the artistic studio How to Kill a Dog with Emma Sehested Høeg.
We believe this is what it takes to elevate Nørrebro Teater into a cultural institution that connects with the wider world, the present moment, and its audiences – one that is dedicated to live, performative art and to offering new perspectives.
