BAMBI RETURNS TO NØRREBRO TEATER
After 20,000 tickets sold and consistently sold-out performances, Bambi er tilbage returns to Nørrebro Teater with a revival premiere in December 2026.
Bambi er tilbage explores modern motherhood in a world that has lost its connection to nature.
Bambi moves with her mother and father into the shadow of an amusement park – on land that was once a forest – to live what appears to be a safe and sheltered life. But the idyll begins to crack. The mother feels herself slowly slipping away in her attempt to protect those she loves most, while striving to live up to both personal and societal ideals. In her encounter with the forest, she must let go of the notion of the self-sacrificing mother and confront the forces that have shaped her. The family is put under pressure as the balance between love, care, independence, and self-sacrifice begins to unravel.
The performance is developed by the interdisciplinary studio How to Kill a Dog, continuing their methodological practice in which audiences and digital followers are engaged as co-creators. Drawing on Felix Salten’s classic Bambi: A Life in the Woods, HTKAD examines what it means to be human, a woman, and a mother today – one hundred years after the book’s publication.
On stage is Emma Sehested Høeg, while set designer Petruska Miehe-Renard and director Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen have created the visual and dramaturgical universe. The music is newly composed by Emma Sehested Høeg and performed live by the string ensemble Who Killed Bambi, with whom HTKAD proudly collaborates to shape the production’s musical pulse.
About How to Kill a Dog
Founded in 2019 by Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen and Emma Sehested Høeg, How to Kill a Dog continuously explores its place in society, working at the intersection of activism, performance, concert, and storytelling. Their work engages with themes such as gender, the body, and sexuality, with a strong focus on how audiences and followers can be thoughtfully involved in both process and performance. Today, HTKAD consists of director Jennifer Vedsted Christiansen (also Artistic Director of Nørrebro Teater), singer, composer, and actor Emma Sehested Høeg, and set designer Petruska Miehe-Renard.
Please note: the show is in Danish.
