GISÈLE PELICOT AT NØRREBRO TEATER
Nørrebro Teater and Politikens Forlag present an exclusive conversation with the French feminist icon Gisèle Pelicot. To mark the publication of her memoir A Tribute to Life, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience Pelicot in conversation on deception, shame, and love.
In 2024, she came forward as the central figure in a sensational case in which her husband had, for nearly a decade, systematically arranged for her to be drugged, and without her knowledge, subjected to sexual assaults by strangers in her own home. During the trial, Pelicot insisted on a fully public hearing so the world could see who the perpetrators were, and that she refused to bow down.
Her words “Shame has to shift sides” have since had global impact, and Gisèle Pelicot has become a feminist rolemodel, working to change the public discourse and emphasize that it should never be the victim who feels shame.
The conversation will take place in French, with ongoing summaries in Danish.
After the conversation, Gisèle Pelicot will be awarded with the PL Foundation’s Freedom Prize on stage, followed by a book signing in the theatre foyer.
Gisèle Pelicot became world-famous overnight in 2024 when she appeared in court in a case against her husband and 50 other men, who accused of sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious. During the trial, Pelicot insisted on opening the courtroom to all of France, and much of the world. Everyone had to see who the perpetrators were and what they had done to her.
In January 2026, Pelicot published her autobiography, which calls for shifting the shame in cases of sexual assault away from the victim. In it, she tells her story in her own words, not only to bear witness, but to create hope, change, and a language for survival.
She has recently been honored by Time Magazine as one of the Women of the Year and was also named one of the most influential women of 2025 by The Independent.
The conversation is presented by Nørrebro Teater and Politikens Forlag.
